Masibumbane HIV/AIDS Mission works in the small township of Mpophomeni (Zulu for "waterfall"), near the town of Howick, 120km west of Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The level of unemployment in the township, with its population of about 35000 mainly Zulu people, is more than 80%. At one time, up to 25 people a week were dying here from AIDS or AIDS-related causes. Typically the breadwinner in the family succumbs to AIDS leaving behind families of grandmothers and orphans or child-headed families. Masibumbane HIV/AIDS Mission is a registered Non-Profit and Public Benefit Organisation made up of Christians from various church denominations who have felt called to serve people living with HIV/AIDS. The Mission endeavors to give substance to the teaching of Jesus Christ to care for those in need. The Witness newspaper ran an article on our Mission (9 July 2007). Click here to read the article |
