Physical Care Project - The core project

Clients are put on a four-month empowering programme that aims at make them as self-sufficient as possible by teaching skills and encouraging self-reliance. The is programme is divided into six phases: waiting list; emergency aid to meet the immediate physical needs; initial rebuilding that addresses emotional needs and initiates life-style and skills training; advanced rebuilding which is a consolidation period and finally the maintenance phase. Those in need are accepted irrespective of their beliefs, with the sole purpose of bringing long-term physical, emotional and spiritual relief.

Services include: home based care education, provision of basic household needs and clothing, weekly food rations, life style improvement education.

During the initial emergency phase clients are given essential items free, but after that some reciprocal action, as they are able, is expected. This is to discourage dependency and to begin to instill in them the idea of earning and self-reliance. Each of the fieldworkers will give a client tasks to do that are written in the so-called "work book." The following week his or her performance is rated and they receive food or service accordingly.
